HOW TO BATH YOUR PUPPYIts important to make the first few baths a pleasant experience, using warm water instead of coldBuy a good quality shampoo specifically for puppies (don't use medicated or insecticide shampoo, unless it actually has fleas) Before putting your puppy in the bath have everything you need ready, shampoo, towels etc Brush or comb him thoroughly before you bath him to make sure all the tangles are out of his coat Put a cotton wool ball into each ear to keep them dry Have the water a comfortable temperature (it should just feel warm on your hand) Lift the puppy into the bath or tub Using a mug or hand held shower, thoroughly wet your puppy Talk to him to keep him calm Work the shampoo into his coat, starting at the neck and working backward Take care not to get shampoo into his eyes Make sure you wash under the under-belly, under the tail and the legs When rinsing use plenty of clean water, holding the water on his head, away from the eyes and ears Make sure all the shampoo is out Dry him thoroughly by rubbing all over with an absorbent cloth, then wrap in a towel and lift out of the bath Let him have a shake If needed dry the coat with a hair dryer HOW TO GET STUBBORN OBJECTS OUT OF DOGS COATS If your dog or puppy has gum in his coat rub the area with ice to freeze the gum and break it out Alternatively pour on some vegetable oil to ooze it out (do this before you bath because the oil will leave the coat greasy) If these methods don't work, it will have to be cut out If your dog or puppy has paint on its coat, try getting it out with soap and water, if it doesn't come out, trim it out To get motor oil out of your puppy or dogs coat use a simple detergent dish washing soap and rinse really well To get pangent smells out of your dogs coat, soak him in tomato juice or vinegar and rub it deep into the coat Leave for a few minutes then rinse out This might need repeating several times to get the smell out Never remove any quills or spines yourself, this is very painful for your dog and your vet may want to sedate him first Dog Grooming advice Dog Grooming Products Dog Collars & Leashes Dog Breeds Kennel Club Dogs Cats Birds Fish Wild Birds Small Pets Horses Reptiles |
